We came across a group of loblolly pines today that appeared to be dusted with snow. Being the first of June, we knew it had to be something else. What we found was an outbreak of “Whoolly Pine Scale”. This is a soft scale that infests pines in the southeastern United States. Whoolly pine scale is usually not a major problem, and is usually controlled by other predator insects in the environment. The scales are sucking insects, and feed on the sap of the tree. If their populations increase to a heavy state, some damage could occur. Shrub Doctor was able to treat these trees to keep them under control. If you see this issue in your landscape, give Shrub Doctor a call.
