Shrub Doctor was called to evaluate the reason for decline of this leyland cypress tree. Upon inspection, we found that a nylon strap, used to support the tree in its infancy, had not been removed. The strap had grown into the tree and cut off its circulation. Upon further inspection we found that every other leyland cypress at this property were restricted with nylon straps. About 30 trees in all. The homeowner cut away as many straps as possible, yet some were completely grown over, and could not be removed. Don’t rely on your landscape contractor to remove support straps from your trees. Its usually up to the home owner to keep up with this task. Forgeting to remove them can be very costly over time.
