This photo shows a basidiocarp fungus growing on the bark of a tree. The existance of a basidiocarp is an indication that there is inner decay within the tree. In this case, a section of the tree has broken away and left an open wound. Over the years, water trapped in the cavity of the wound has caused slow decay. Rot has begun to advance further into the main trunk, and will eventually result in its decine.
