Shrub Doctor was created in 2005 to provide an organic fertilization and consultation service to the Charlotte Metro area. At that time there were several lawn fertilization services, yet there was no attention being made to the most valuable aspect of the landscape, the shrubs and ornamental trees. Five years later, Shrub Doctor provides annual organic shrub and tree programs to over 170 residential and commercial clients. Mark Tally (The Shrub Doctor),also consults with numerous landscaping and tree services, to help them enhance their knowledge, and to resolve plant health challenges with their own clients. These close business relationships have resulted in a higher level of attention and value to the customer.
Shrub Doctor utilizes custom blended organic formulas that he blends each morning. These recipes are derived from sea kelp, cold processed fish solutions, humates, leonardite, and other macro and micro nutrients. During the winter season, Shrub Doctor introduces granular organic formulas containing dormant beneficial bacteria and fungi. When necessary, mild insect controls are used on select plants, to suppress insect invasions. These insect control formulas are made from nicotine; the same ingredient used in pet flea and tick products. Healthy plants rarely have insect issues. Healthy plants create strong cell wall strength, which cannot be easily pierced by leaching insects. The bad insects just move on to a more unhealthy landscape.
Mark works to build long-term relationships with his clients. He enjoys spending time with the homeowner, so they can learn more about their landscape. Mark feels this close communication provides even more value to the Shrub Doctor service, and keeps it above the competition. Most other services employ “applicators” to service their properties. Mark feels that his customers pay for his personal knowledge and attention. Most of his clients have thousands of dollars invested in their landscape. They deserve a specialist to insure their plants get the attention necessary to ensure an optimum level of health.
